Live like the locals...
For me, part of the experience of coming to Marrakesh is staying in one of the local Riads (B&B) in the Medina. It can be difficult to see which ones are good and which ones look good in the pictures, but the weight may be deceiving a little.
Make sure to book well in advance - or be flexible with the days. There is a rift about the few rooms many of the riads have.
I have tried several times to get a place at Riad BE Marrakech (@Bemarrakech), but unfortunately without success so far. Really hope it worked out as it just looks absolutely fantastic and gets such great reviews.
They are just about to open a sister hotel in the desert south of Marrakech. The place is called BE Agafay (@beagafay).
On the other hand, I have stayed at the Riad BLISS Hotel Marrakech (@riadblisshotelmarrakech) - and this riad is also really beautiful and has a good location in terms of moving out of the Medina, visiting many of the lovely restaurants that I recommend in my other blog and not least is very close to Place de Epices, which is a good starting point for visiting the souk.
I have also been recommended Riad 42 Marrakech (@riad42marrakech), which I have not stayed at yet.
Just outside the Median itself is El Fenn Marrakech (@elfennmarrakech), which is a luxury hotel with rooftop restaurant and bar, boutique & spa etc. It is an expensive place to stay but we have visited their rooftop bar and restaurant a few times. The sun setting over the rooftops of the medina with a drink in hand doesn't get any better than El Fenn. We are saving up to try their unique rooms at some point…
