Casa W Experiences - the first 6 weeks have been a learning journey where I've had the opportunity to develop and learn different aspects of running a webshop. Casa W is now 6 weeks old, and I've encountered a wide variety of challenges.
And wow, have I learned a lot. When I started Casa W, I knew I had experience with purchasing, suppliers, CSR, and product development from my years in Asia. But it quickly became clear to me that there are many roles one must take on when starting their own webshop. In a very short time, I've become a SoMe manager, photographer, packing manager, copywriter, customer service representative, warehouse manager, and much more.
Products and Images
One of the first things I learned was the importance of good product images. I quickly realized that investing in a light tent is essential for taking beautiful pictures with a white or black background, just like major brands present their goods. Unfortunately, it's not as easy as it looks. It's important to work with natural light to prevent the images from having an indescribably yellow tint.
I've also learned that social media requires a constant flow of content. There's a need for a variety of different images: product shots, details, atmospheric shots, and "behind the scenes" material. This can be a fun but time-consuming task. Many of our products need to be seen in use to understand their value – for example, a cushion on a sofa or a bowl on a table.
Practical Experiences
One practical experience I gained was that you shouldn't put foam granules directly into a vintage pouf. Otherwise, you'll end up with white balls scattered all over the house. Next time, I'll use an old duvet cover for the filling before it goes into the pouf.
The Importance of Networking
One of the most surprising realizations was how much networking means for success. It has been incredible to see how friends, family, and my network have supported my project. Having someone cheer, share, or recommend Casa W has been greatly appreciated and truly shows that you don't build something alone.
Growth and Challenges
I've learned that you can do more than you think. The first 6 weeks have been filled with new challenges, but also with the opportunity to learn and grow. I've started from scratch in many areas, and although it has been overwhelming at times, it's amazing to discover my own ability to improve.
Getting Started
An important lesson is that you don't need to have everything perfectly planned to get started. There are many tools like Canva that can help design material. The most important thing is to start, showcase the products, and share the process, even if everything isn't perfect from the beginning.
Final Thoughts
After the first 6 weeks, I am convinced that hand-picked products have a special value. Products with history, texture, and character can give a home a unique personality. This is precisely the universe I want to build upon with Casa W.
I look forward to the next 6 weeks and all the experiences they will bring.
