Sumba - Indonesian stone figure

The simple stone carvings - Sumba or Stonemen as they are also called - originate from the Indonesian island of Sumba and are hand-carved from sandstone by local artisans. In the traditional villages of Sumba, statues like this are placed in and around the entrance to the hut, offering protection and healing to the residents inside.
