Why is Casa W called Casa W, actually?

Hvorfor hedder Casa W egentlig Casa W?

In short, Casa W means a home with W. Casa refers to the house, the home and everything we surround ourselves with. W comes from my surname, Wetterstrøm. Together, the name became the beginning of a universe of handpicked interiors, unique finds and products with a story.

Why is Casa W called Casa W?

Many people have tried to pronounce the name of my little shop. Ka-sau. Ka-sa-v. Casa in flawless Spanish or Italian and then a very Danish W afterwards.

I readily admit that it may not have been the most mellifluous name I came up with back in 2022. But there was actually a method to the madness.

I wanted a name that could encompass home, family, wanderlust and the unique products I dreamed of bringing together in Casa W.

What does Casa W mean?

Casa means house or home in Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. For me, it was important that the name pointed directly to the universe I wanted to create: a place for interiors, home decor, atmosphere and products that can move into a home and become part of everyday life.

The W comes from my surname Wetterstrøm. In my family, the boys are often called Wetter, but since Wetter means weather in German, it didn't seem like the right name for a webshop with interiors. So it just became W.

So Casa W is, in all its simplicity, my bid for a home with personality, warmth and handpicked items.

A name with an eye to the international market

I also wanted a name that could be understood outside Denmark's borders. We have a house in Spain, and I've long had a small dream of one day being able to open a pop-up shop in Spain during the summer months.

Therefore, Casa made good sense to me. It sounded international, yet simple. It pointed to home, but also to travel, markets, craftsmanship and the places where I find many of the beautiful products for Casa W.

However, I only later discovered that W is not exactly the most natural letter in Spanish, Italian and and Portuguese. So it wasn't perfectly linguistically sound. But that's often the case with the best ideas. They're not always perfect on paper.

Casa W Denmark and the Danish design aesthetic

Although Casa W draws much inspiration from Morocco, India and the local markets I love so much, the brand is also Danish. I wanted to include Denmark because the Danish approach to home and design means a lot to me.

For me, Danish design is not just about minimalism. It's about quality, function, tranquility and an ability to choose with care.

Casa W lies in the tension between the simple Scandinavian home and craftsmanship, materials and unique items from other cultures. That's precisely where I think the magic happens.

Products with a story

The tagline Products with a story came about because I didn't just want to sell things. I wanted to collect products that had character. Things that were handmade. Things where the material, shape or patina tells a story.

It could be a Tamegroute platter from Morocco, a vintage pot from Nepal, a cactus silk cushion cover or a lampshade that gives a room a completely different sense of calm.

What they all have in common is that they don't feel mass-produced. They can have small variations. They can be a little crooked. That's often precisely where they become most beautiful.

From small shop to a more unified universe

When I started Casa W, I probably thought of it mostly as a webshop. Today, I think of it more as a universe.

A place where you can find Tamegroute ceramics, cushion covers, lampshades, vintage finds and products for the home that don't look like everything else you find everywhere else.

I want to make it easier to create a home that feels personal. Not perfect. Not trend-driven. Just cozy, beautiful and with space for things that tell their own story.

Am I still happy with the name Casa W?

Yes, in fact, more and more so.

The name may not be the easiest to pronounce. But it encompasses much of what Casa W is built on: home, family, abroad, craftsmanship, quality and my own love for finding special things.

And perhaps that's very fitting. Because Casa W isn't about being perfectly smooth either. It's about products with soul, materials with life and a home that is built up over time.
