The carved Tuareg Berber tent pegs or poles originate from North Africa and are made by the Tuareg. The Tuareg are a nomadic people who wander in Africa and are known as the 'blue people' because of their traditional blue cloth which also covers their skin.

Each peg is unique, handmade and handed down within the family through generations.

The traditional geometric design incorporated into the tent pegs also act as protective totems.

The tent pegs have the most wonderful patterns - lines, squares, triangles and waves. The top of the peg is quite worn and broken from being hammered into the harsh terrain of the Sahara desert and other areas of North Africa.

This is a fascinating and beautiful piece of tribal art.
